Last updated: October 12, 2026 · Who we are: BIG INTELLIGENCE AI, LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("BIG Intelligence", "we"). Contact: privacy@bigintelligenceai.com · 44940 Lindsey Drive, Van Buren Township, MI 48111, USA
In short: Spine, our desktop app, sends nothing about you or your work to us. We handle personal data only when you contact us, when you ask for a DFMEA on a public design, and when you visit our website.
1. Spine on your computer
- Your work stays on your computer. Your models, documents, history and backups are stored on your computer. We cannot see them.
- No telemetry, no analytics, no account. Spine does not report how you use it.
- The license record. Spine stores on your computer which license version you accepted and when. It is not sent to us.
- Updates. On macOS, Spine checks BIG Intelligence's public release page on GitHub for updates, about 15 seconds after it starts. The check carries your IP address and a random ID that Spine generates once and stores on your computer (in a file named
.updaterId). GitHub can see both; we cannot. It carries nothing about your work. On Windows, Spine makes no update request of its own, because the Microsoft Store updates it under Microsoft's terms. - Your AI assistant. You connect your own AI assistant, under your own account. What it reads and sends to its provider is governed by your agreement with that provider, not by this notice.
- Windows diagnostic events. On Windows, Spine's search component (Microsoft ONNX Runtime) may record a diagnostic event through Windows' own event system when it loads. Whether that event leaves your computer depends on your Windows diagnostic-data setting. Spine switches off ONNX Runtime's own telemetry.
- Log file. Spine keeps a log file (
backend.log) on your computer. It includes project names and file paths, which can contain your user name. It is not sent to us. - Uninstalling. Uninstalling removes the app but not your projects: they stay in the
.spinefolder in your user profile until you delete them. On macOS the app's own data folder, including the log file, also stays. On Windows the Microsoft Store removes that folder with the app.
2. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your name, email address and anything in your message or signature. We use them to reply and to provide what you asked for. Legal basis (EU): taking steps at your request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in answering (Art. 6(1)(f)). We keep correspondence for 12 months after our last contact, unless we need it longer for a legal reason. We will only send you news about Spine if you ask us to.
3. DFMEA requests on public designs
If you ask us to run a DFMEA on a public design, we receive what you enter in the request form (name, email, the design's source, and your answers to the form's declarations) and the files you upload. You have confirmed the design is public and contains no personal data beyond what you need to send, so please remove people's names from it.
- No confidentiality undertaking. This is an evaluation service. BIG Intelligence gives no confidentiality undertaking for evaluation submissions. Do not submit confidential, proprietary, trade-secret, personal, classified or export-controlled information. This does not limit rights or obligations that the law does not allow to be waived.
- Use: we use it only to review and run your request, and to reply. Only our team runs DFMEAs, and we run one only after confirming that the design is public and non-proprietary.
- Who else sees it: we run evaluation requests through a Claude subscription from Anthropic, PBC, or through Anthropic's API. On the subscription, Anthropic handles that material under its consumer terms and privacy policy, which may allow it to use the material, including to train its models. We have turned off model training in that account; Anthropic may still use material its safety systems flag, or that we send it as feedback. We do not promise that material sent for an evaluation DFMEA will not be used to train AI. Our form provider, Formspree, stores what you submit until we delete it.
- Publishing: only if you ticked the box allowing it (the box is off by default), and only with the credit you chose.
- How long we keep it: we delete the design, the result, your form entry and the request record (name, email, date, declarations) within 90 days of returning the result, unless you allowed publication.
- Legal basis (EU): performing the service you asked for (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)); for publishing, your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time before publication.
A DFMEA on your own proprietary design is provided only under a separate written agreement, which sets out how your material is handled. Please don't email us proprietary design material without one.
4. Our website
Our website is hosted through OpenAI Sites. BIG Intelligence has not added analytics tools or advertising trackers. Our hosting infrastructure uses security cookies, including Cloudflare’s __cf_bm cookie, to protect against automated abuse. The hosting service may process technical data associated with visits, such as IP addresses and pages requested, to deliver and secure the site.
5. Who we share personal data with
We do not sell personal data. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate, under contracts that limit their use of it:
| Provider | What for |
|---|---|
| Anthropic, PBC | Running DFMEA requests. Evaluation requests: a Claude subscription, under Anthropic's consumer terms, or Anthropic's API. Commercial work: Anthropic's API, under its commercial terms and data processing agreement, which do not allow it to train on customer content. |
| Formspree, Inc. (hosted on Amazon Web Services in the US) | Receiving DFMEA requests and uploads |
| Google Workspace (Google LLC) | Our email. DFMEA mail arrives at dfmea@bigintelligenceai.com, an alias into our Google Workspace mailbox, and is permanently deleted after 90 days. |
| OpenAI Sites (with Cloudflare infrastructure) | Hosting our website |
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
6. International transfers
Spine 0.7.4 is not offered in the EU or EEA. We are based in the United States, and our providers process data there. If you contact us from the EU or the UK, your data is processed in the US. Where the law requires it, we rely on our providers' data processing agreements and the transfer mechanisms in them.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the personal data we hold about you, to object to our use of it, or to receive a copy. Email privacy@bigintelligenceai.com and we will respond within the time the law requires. If you are in the EU or UK, you may also complain to your data protection authority.
8. Children
Spine is a professional engineering tool and is not directed at children.
