DFMEA / Engineering service

From architecture
to failure-mode
insight.

Spine provides the model and its exports. BIG Intelligence runs the DFMEA as a separate engineering service.

Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis

Understand what
could fail, and
what needs review.

Results can include failure modes, causes and scores, candidate trouble codes, and open items that point to missing detection or mitigation requirements.

The engineer reviews the analysis and retains design authority.

01 / Choose the right scope

Evaluate on a public design.
Discuss your own by agreement.

Evaluate Spine on your own designs on your own machine. Never send us proprietary or confidential material. The free DFMEA service evaluation uses public or generic designs only.

DFMEA is not performed inside the Spine desktop app. It is an analysis BIG Intelligence runs using the design description you export.

Example DFMEA

See it on the example — free.

We have run a DFMEA on the electric power steering example: see the failure modes, causes, candidate trouble codes and the open items the analysis raises.

Public-design evaluation

Explore the approach.

A free evaluation is available for one public or generic design per person, subject to review and acceptance. Eligible sources may include a public report, published paper or open-hardware project, or a generic design based on general knowledge.

  • Evaluation, not production use.
  • Public-design evaluation carries no confidentiality or security commitment. Do not submit proprietary or confidential material.
  • No export-controlled designs or personal information.
  • Requests are reviewed and may be declined; no turnaround is promised.

How to request an evaluation

Email the public source link or a short description of your generic design, the scope you want reviewed, and the two Spine design-description export files if you have them.

In your email, confirm that the design is public or yours to share and contains no confidential or proprietary information; it contains no export-controlled technical data; you have removed unnecessary personal data; and the source you give is accurate.

Read the Spine Evaluation License and privacy notice before sending. Evaluation requests may be processed by the third-party AI provider described there.

Commercial engagement

Work on your
own design.

For production or proprietary work, start by discussing a separate written agreement. Scope, data handling, confidentiality, support and delivery arrangements need to be agreed before any design material is shared.

Don’t send proprietary designs through an evaluation form or by email.

02 / How the service works

Export. Analyze.
Review in context.

DFMEA is available as a separate BIG Intelligence service. Request a public-design evaluation by email using the instructions above. We review each request before running the analysis.

  1. 01

    Export the design description

Spine writes two design-description files to your project’s exports folder. Review their contents and confirm the material is appropriate to share.

  2. 02

    Agree the route and scope

Public-design evaluations require review and acceptance. Proprietary work requires a commercial agreement before material is shared.

  3. 03

    BIG Intelligence runs the analysis

The service prepares a structured results file with failure modes, causes, candidate trouble codes and open engineering items.

  4. 04

    Inspect the results in Spine

Import the results for model review through Spine’s validation process. The analysis supports engineering judgment; it does not replace it.

03 / Beyond the download

Convergence is
a separate conversation.

Connecting the completeness of HARA, SOTIF, TARA and DFMEA is a separate BIG Intelligence engagement under NDA. It is not a feature in the Spine desktop download.

Neither Spine nor this service is certified as a means of compliance with a functional-safety standard.
